MARKING MACHINE DIE TOOLING

Line drawing of die mountDIE MOUNT #215

This is the most basic die mount available for the Model 105 and 105EW machines. It is a nominal 3/4 inches high. Printing dies must be mounted in the machine at the industry standard "type high" dimension of 0.918 inches. Thinner printing dies will require shim stock and adhesive for the mounted die to total 0.918 inches. To mount thicker printing dies, the block may need to be machined to the dimension that will achieve a final print unit height of 0.918 inches.

This simple unit enables the user to mount engraved die plates of various thickness without the need for shim stock or machining. A flat head adjustment screw is provided at each corner that indexes to the print arm of the machine when the assembly is mounted. With a micrometer or caliper, each screw is set to the dimension that will result in a total print unit height equal to the standard "type high" thickness of 0.918 inches. The screws are secured from accidental misadjustment by thread locking compound.

For example, if your printing die plate is 0.067 inches thick and your adhesive adds 0.020 inch, then set the plate holder adjustment screws for 0.831 inches to bring the total print unit thickness to 0.918 inches for mounting in the machine.

This unit holds individual pieces of rubber type. It consists of a metal plate, a ribbed rubber plate, and two mounting screws (not shown). It installs in a JanTech machine and provides a way of easily changing characters of rubber type that lock into the ribbed rubber plate.

The plate, the pad, and the rubber type combine to make a print unit of standard thickness, (0.918 inch). Many different styles and sizes of rubber type are available. Logo dies are also available.

The #260 type holder is used to hold metal type, logo dies and photoengravings mounted "type high" (0.918 inch). This type holder mounts in the printing arm of the machine. It secures in place with two thumb screws. Loosening the screws allows the type holder to slide out, permitting quick removal and installation. The type holder has four set screws. Loosening them allows removal and replacement of the type or dies and spacers.

The type holder can hold up to five lines of type, each about two inches (50 mm) long. The number of lines is dependent on the size of the type being used. The type holder can also hold mounted photoengravings as well as type, or both at the same time. When ordering a type holder, make certain that you have spacers of the proper size to use with your type. Spacer kits are available separately.

A "setup plate," part #249, is available for use with the type holder. It is convenient when assembling the type and spacers in the type holder. This plate leans the type holder slightly so the type and spacers will stay in place when adding and removing pieces. It also provides a flat surface for the type to rest upon so the type will all be even when securing the set screws.
